Emancipation Proclamation

My fellow Americans, these 3 years have wreaked havoc on us all. Our families, our hearts, and our country ache from the devastation that this war has brought about. There is a love that binds us all–a love for our countrymen and a love for our country. We all hope that one day we can find peace in knowing that we are all the same, we are all Americans first.

Our journey has been a treacherous one, filled with pain and anguish. Today I wish to relieve that pain and anguish for our fellow man.

This war largely stems to the belief that some of our fellow countrymen are not equal because of the color of their skin. Many of our fellow man have found themselves to be judged, set apart, and in bondage their entire life’s.

This cycle must end.

Today on the 1st of January, 1863 I will be signing into order the Emancipation Proclamation. This document will break the shackles of slavery for our fellow man. For it says: “that all persons held as slaves” within the rebellious states “are, and henceforward shall be free.”

Let us find serenity in knowing that our fellow man has been liberated today. And let us forgive those who have wronged us. “To live is to suffer, to survive is to find meaning in the suffering.”
